Evaluation task 4

Evaluation task 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Because all of our coursework is presented through blogger, I have used the computers and the internet alot which has helped me in a lot of my research.Using sites such as Youtube helped me when researching different genres and existing media products. I used software such as powerpoint and prezi as different ways of presenting my work. By using the computers also enabled me to look up Katy Perry's and similar artists websites and digipak's.

When it came to editing my ancillary tasks I used Adobe Photoshop, which i felt confident using because of using it in GCSE, at AS level and because I took photography.

We used a standard camera to take the photo's in the studio for our ancillary tasks. Me and Mabel took it in turns to take photo's and then we decided as a group what ones we wanted to choose and which ones weren't any good. We then uploaded all of the photo's onto the computers and came to a decision which ones were going to be used for what part of our ancillary tasks.

Evaluation task 3

When presenting our initial screening all of our footage was in colour and some of our feedback from members within our class was that the shots of them in the park were too bright. Therefore we experimented with editing some of the past shots in black and white. As a group we were quite indecisive about what version we preferred and asked our teachers and people in our class and the majority of them said they preferred the black and white version. I showed both to my family and they explained why they preferred the black and white version of our music video.

Evaluation task 3

After watching our initial screening we wanted to know how we could improve and make our music video better. I asked Cait, a girl in my class, what her opinion of our video was and if she had any criticisms or suggestions what we could include.

fonts

We experimented with different fonts which would tie in with our genre and choice of song and these are some of the ones we looked at. The circled fonts are the ones we all decided on as a group that we like.

I think our current score for our main task is roughly twenty marks because it is unfinished and parts of the footage are missing or not meant to be included. However I feel that the range of shots that we do include are of a good quality. I don't think we will score much for our ancillary task because none of them are finished yet so i think we will score about a 1 or 2 however i do think that the images we have are relevant to our genre of music and and the poster and digipak links together and ties in with our music video.

This is our facebook page of our production company, Symphony Productions where people can join and share their thoughts and opinions. The people that like it and are members will do this because they are our target audience which helps us when receiving their feedback. When we need feedback on our final music video and is a rough copy of our music video we will upload it to our Facebook page to get feedback on what we need to do to improve or make it better and what's good about it and what do they like etc. Then when our final and complete music video is done we will upload it to Facebook for people to see and watch.

By watching and analysing the song that we have chosen gave us some ideas and inspiration to include in our own when it comes to producing it, for example in Katy Perry's music video she uses quite quick cuts in-between shots to keep up with the rhythm/ beat of the song, which we will do when it comes to re-creating this music video. Andrew Goodwin's theory also ties in with Katy Perry's music video for the literal meanings on certain lyrics such as having matching tattoos, which is something that we will include in our own music video. Katy Perry's music video is a dominant reading (Stuart Hall) which is what we want our music video to come across like that.
Tzvetan Todorov's Theory
Todorov believes that there are five stages to the majority of narratives, this could be in films or music videos.

The first stage is a state of equilibrium (neutral/ balanced) where the characters are introduced and the audience are able to understand the location/ setting. This is true for the narrative in our music video because the audience will first of all establish who Scarlett is and how she is reminiscing on her past with her ex boyfriend.

Stage number two is when the equilibrium is disrupted or disturbed. At the start of our music video Scarlett and her ex boyfriend have already broken up, however there are shots of him and his new girlfriend together which could be a disruption but the main one is when you see Scarlett and her ex arguing and breaking up later on in our music video.

The third stage is when the character realises there has been a disruption. Scarlett realises that she is starting to miss her boyfriend because the lyrics and the music video narrative and performance is a reflection on her past and the realisation hits her when she sees her ex boyfriend with a new girlfriend in the park where they use to hang out and share memories.

The fourth stage is when the character tries to mend the disruption and do something about it. This does not apply to our music video because she notices that she has lost him but doesn't do anything to change the situation and when he calls her at the end of the music video she hovers over the hang up button because she doesn't want to get hurt again.

Todorov's final stage is closure and back to a neutral balance like at the beginning. This is true to our music video narrative because by hanging up on him she realises that no good will ever come to the relationship and that she needs to move on and as much as it hurts her she is happy that she made the right choice and the state of equilibrium is back to a neutral balance like at the start of the music video.

I will upload images of our final music video showing these four stages that apply to our music video later on.

Letter to Columbia records

9 DERRY STREET

Dear Columbia Records,
We are students at John Cabot Academy in Bristol, England. We are studying A2 Media studies, for our coursework project we have formed a hypothetical record label which we have names ‘Symphony productions’. In our group we then decided for our project to make a music video.

We researched different songs and groups to decide on what song to use for our music video. We came to the conclusion that we really wanted to use Katy Perry’s song “The one that got away”. Therefore we are writing to ask for your permission to use her song for our school project. I can assure you that the material we produce will not include and inappropriate content or behaviour and will not be used to make and money. We hope that you will take this into consideration and allow us to use her song for our A2 coursework. Thank you for taking the time to consider us.
Yours Sincerely,
Symphony Productions.

This letter was wrote by Scarlett who is part of my production company Symphony to ask if we were able to use Katy Perry's song 'The one that got away' for our media studies project.

Ideology
In the 2012 people's choice awards, Katy Perry left with lots of awards as well as nominations. Her awards were:
-Favourite tour headliner
-Favourite music video for her song Last Friday Night
-Favourite song of the year with E.T
-Favourite female artist

Katy Perry is 27 years old and has achieved all of these awards and is a well recognised music artist and has also been voted favourite female artist of 2012, therefore she would have reached Maslow's esteem stage of the pyramid because of her achievements and she will be confident.

Ideology is related to peoples ideas, values and beliefs. For example if a young music artist was driving a really nice expensive car and people especially boys would idolise them and then feel like what they want is that car. They also would feel like they should be driving a car like that when they reach the same age as the artist, so ideology is a very influential thing. With Katy Perry being a recognised and very successful music artist at twenty seven makes people idolise her and think that they should have achieved something of a similar standard at the same age.
